Consistent Brand Communication from Packaging to Sales Materials

Customers do not encounter a brand only through its product packaging. Catalogues, brochures, product sheets, and sales materials are also important parts of the overall brand experience.

For this reason, commercial printed materials should not be treated as design projects that are independent of packaging. Colours, typography, visual language, and messaging should remain consistent across all communication touchpoints.

First, define the purpose of the material.

When preparing printed materials, the first question should not be, “Which paper should we use?”

The first step is to determine what the material is expected to achieve:

  • Present products in detail?
  • Support the sales team?
  • Be distributed at a trade fair?
  • Provide corporate information?
  • Promote a specific campaign?

Once the purpose is clear, decisions regarding format, page count, paper selection, and finishing techniques can be made more effectively.

Print quantity and frequency of updates

A material whose content changes frequently should not be planned in the same way as a corporate catalogue intended for long-term use.

Print quantity, expected lifespan, and frequency of updates all influence printing and finishing decisions.

Consistency builds trust

If the colours and visual language used on packaging differ significantly from those used in sales materials, brand consistency may be weakened.

Effective commercial printing is not simply about producing something that looks good. It is about delivering the brand’s message in the right physical format while maintaining consistency across every touchpoint.
